Abstract Given the growing importance of issue competition and use social media during elections, this study seeks to create a better understanding how dynamics relating political parties play out on media. It tests whether ownership theory can explain issues are being discussed Twitter what extent mediated form aligns with citizens’ perceptions ownership. The results indicate that as measured in representative surveys correlate variations linked Twitter. Some deviations also emerged, which possibly reflect short-term changes parties’ competition. Understanding mediates through platforms is important order evaluate role contemporary opinion forming processes sheds light among online fora.
